Wilton Norman Chamberlain was born on August 21, 1936 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As a young boy in school he played on the track and field team and excelled at the high jump, put shot, broad jump and running. The furthest thing on his mind was basketball, a sport he had no interest for in his youth. It wasn't until later in life he turned his interest to basketball.

Chamberlain stood at 7ft 1inch and an mean weight of roughly 280 lbs. As big as a man that he was he was very agile and because of his early days of training on the track and field team in high school he was fast on his feet. His favorite nickname was the Chairman of the Boards, given to him because of his basketball skill and acumen. Chamberlain first played for the Harlem Globetrotters in the 1958 / 1959 season. His expert occupation began in1959 when he was drafted in the Nba by the Philadelphia Warriors which later moved and became the San Francisco Warriors till 1965. From 1965 to 1968 he moved back to Philly to play for the Philadelphia 76ers. He moved to California to play for the Los Angeles Lakers in 1968 until his retirement as a player in 1973. He coached the San Diego Conquistadors for one year, 1973 to 1974.

Wilt Chamberlain led a very successful occupation in the Nba. He was named one of the 50th most players in Nba history, named rebounding champion 11 times, he was an Nba All Star 13 times. His list of accomplishments in the Nba is long. It wasn't until after his retirement from basketball that he turned his attention to Hollywood and starred in the movie Conan the Destroyer. As an author Wilt wrote several books but it was this lifelong bachelor's claim of bedding and having sex with 20,000 women that made him the favorite icon that he is today. Wilt Chamberlain died at the age of 63 in Bel Air, California on October 12, 1999.
